Wilson Foundation grants $10 million for Detroit neighborhoods

The Ralph C. Wilson Foundation has given Detroit $10 million for neighborhood revitalization. The foundation was created by the late Ralph C. Wilson, a former Detroit resident who became founder and owner of the Buffalo Bills. The grant will go towards Detroit’s overall goal for it’s Strategic Neighborhood Fund (SNF). SNF uses philanthropic contributions and subsidies with the goal of improving streetscapes and walkability, kickstarting local business and adding or preserving affordable housing. Near the end of this press conference, you’ll hear from Akunna Olumba, CFO of the Detroit Pizza Bar. Olumba said the business received a $400,000 grant through SNF to develop and strengthen a workforce of 18, combined with sustainability efforts for the building such as a gray water system, solar panels and blue roof designed to capture rainwater. It’s a moving vision of hope for any like-minded, ambitious Detroiter. Her words are a powerful call to action. Please watch!
